PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF ASBESTOS SCREENING PROGRAM
Ten departments reported 36,454 employees and 591 pensioners evaluated for asbestos-related X-ray abnormalities.
1.1% (405) of the active employees had asbestos abnormalities. 4.4% (26) of the pensioners also had abnormalities. It must be noted that 168 evalu ations are incomplete in C&P, PP, and Engineering.
403 employees and pensioners were referred to a pulmonary specialist, but 431 were diagnosed as having abnormalities. The conclusion must be that 28 abnormalities were diagnosed without the benefit of a specialist examination or the reported figures are incorrect.
More specific incidence data should be available within the next year to include pensioners.
