Mr. Adrian D. Joyce, Chairman of the Board of Directors, founder, and Chief Executive Officer of our Company and its subsidiaries, passed away this morning at'his home in Cleveland.
Mr.'Joyce recently, returned from a European trip-through England and the Scandinavian countries. Until he died early today he appeared to be in excellent health end spirits. During the past week, following his return from his trip abroad, our Chairman had been very active in directing the business of the Company. He suffered a heart attack at about 8:00 A.M. this morning and passed away suddenly Without suffering.
Mr. Joyce's many fine qualities and extraordinary abilities, as well as his many years of devoted service to our Company, are well known to all of you. He founded The Glidden Company in 1917 and since that time its remarkable growth and well-planned diversification can be primarily attributed to his outstanding talents and untiring efforts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 27 at 2:00 P.M. at Wade Memorial Chapel, Lakeview Cemetery, 12316 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. All operations of the Company except continuous processes will close at 12:00 noon the day of the funeral. Mr. Joyce's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions of friends be made to the Cleveland Area Heart Society, 2073 East 9th Street, Cleveland, Ohio.
The memories which we have of Mr. Joyce's life and leadership will remain with us always and will be a source of continued inspiration to us. We know that the entire organization of the Company will wish to join us in extending their heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Mr. Joyce's family.
