Brief History of Metropolitan Life's Health and Safety Activities 1671-1977 For over 100 years, Metropolitan Life has been unique in performing a public health service in an insurance company setting. Its efforts have included the promotion of health and safety through publications, films, filmstrips, TV and radio as well as demonstration projects, research and consultation and cooperation with local, state and national health organizations, both voluntary and governmental. Through the years, as various public health problems were brought under control and others arose, the Company's programs changed to meet the current health challenges.
