We have had one or two incidents related to peroxide formation from vinylidene chloride and therefore we suggest reinforcing the warning. We would suggest adding the following statement in section E. Control Methods: Caution Vinylidene chloride may form a white, solid peroxide which when dry may explode upon minor impact. Any pipe or other equipment which may be contaminated with peroxide should be wet with water or 5% sodium hydroxide to remove the peroxide. Also, in section 2 Safety Precautions of the analytical portion add: Caution Vinylidene chloride may form a white, solid peroxide. Do not use glass-stoppered bottles for liquid samples or standards.
