President Donald Trump said he would not pardon former Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Tuesday night because he didn't want to cause "controversy."
But Trump, speaking at a rally in Phoenix, hinted that a pardon would be coming for the former sheriff, who was convicted of federal contempt of court charges. "He'll be just fine," Trump said.
Earlier Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump would not be pardoning the sheriff that day, a staunch anti-immigration figure and Trump backer.
