We ask your cooperation in this one time only request for 1975 and 1976 occupational injury and illness data. This mailing Is directed to the nearly 12,000 units which registered this past year for participation in the revised AWARD PLAN and IN DUSTRY RATES programs. Nearly 8,000 of these units also registered to participate in one of the 25 section SAFETY CON
TESTS.
These revised programs involve reporting occupational Injuries and illnesses in accordance with the Recordkeeping Re quirements of the OSHAct of 1970 (revised 1975), rather than the ANSI 216.1 Standard. Also, the Standard Industrial Classifica tion codes have been adopted as the basis of industrial classification of annual reports, replacing the former Industrial classification system which had become inadequate.
Neither the classification of cases nor the industrial classification under the new system Is compatible with the old system. Therefore, this prior data is needed to:
)
1. Provide the necessary minimum of two prior years Industry average incidence rates for evaluation under the Award Plan of 1977 records to be collected at the end of this year.
2. Furnish a minimum of three years experience for publication in ACCIDENT FACTS and in the new INDUSTRY RATES annual pamphlet series.
3. Select the Standard Industrial Classification categories for which incidence rates will be published and used for award evaluation. The number of units reporting in each industry category and the .amount of exposure will be the basis of this selection.
Most United States employers keep records under the OSHAct, and the injury and illness data requested above can be copied directly from their OSHA No. 102 Annual Summaries for 1975 and 1976.
This initial solicitation of data provides an opportunity for your review of our classification of your unit, based on your Registration form. Let us know of any questions you have regarding the various classifications, particularly your SIC industry classification. Also, registration forms will be furnished upon request for any additional units you wish to report next year for
