Martin PURPOSE OF contact To discuss the toxicology of asbestos (1) SUMMARY AND (2) ACTION: (MATERIAL PRESENTED, HANDOUTS, DATA COLLECTED, RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACTION) In the opinion of Haskell Laboratory there is enough evidence __ suggesting a link between exposure to asbestos and the .incidents of lung cancer that they feel we should handle asbestos with considerably more care than has been used in the past. This care is particularly impor tant to those of us who may use asbestos for reinforcement of plastics since the asbestos used for this application is in the form of fine fibers which can easily be spread over a large area such as a semiworks'. It was agreed among those present that any further work which they did with asbestos would be governed by the following guidelines: 1. Work in the laboratory would be confined to laboratory hoods where the ventilation is good. 2. Prior to using asbestos in any semiworks area special ' precautions would be taken to prevent dusting. In addition, special provisions for waste disposal would be made. It was considered unwise to burn large quantities of asbestos containing waste in the incinerator at the Experimental Station. uu DUP 0900611 SC-DP-01440
