Fasoid at Philip Carey. 1 had an opportunity recently to discuss with them the question of your making further investigations for them along the lines you indicated, 4but they have decided not to do this. 1 am unable to determine exactly why they d6 not wish to bring the matter out into the open.and investigate it, but 1 feel that their probable reescr. is that they wish to let the matter develop and Let the industry os a whole take whatever action is indicated, and that their own company should not spearhead or be a guinea pig in this matter. I feel that this is short'Slghted and have so Indicated to them, but at the moment, they do not' wish to proceed with*the matter further. 1 do think it would be well, however, for you to continue sending us eny data that you feel we should have and we will continue to keep them aware and abreast of your investigations and conclusions, and perhaps the matter will change sometime in the future. 1 noticed in the paper the other day that a person living in th< vicinity of a beryllium plant in Pennsylvania finally collected a judgm over $100,000.00 in court action, based on Injurious exposure to fumes emitted by the plant, which apparently caused some respiratory Illness wife. The paper indicated that this was a test case and that there wen more than 20 other cases pending and they would probably now proceed.
