Press reports of new microbial technology for biodegradation of PCBs in environmental contalminatlon sites, e.g., soils, waters (rivers, lakes, etc.), were tracked down and reviewed. These reports are attributed to three different university research departments. In summary NO significant breakthroughs have been achieved yet which would lead to practical, commercial, cost-effective treatment of environmental PCBs contamination via microbial degradation. As in the past, only lower chlorinated PCBs (<3 chlorines/molecule) are effectively degraded at signi ficant rates.
