The Honorable Sang Yi Acting Administrator Maritime Administration U.S. Department of Transportation 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, D.C. 20590
Dear Acting Administrator Yi,
I write to express my strong support for the FY 2025 Small Shipyard Grant application submitted by Caddell Dry Dock & Repair Co., INC., located in Staten Island, New York.
Caddell Dry Dock is a cornerstone of New York Harbor's maritime industry and plays a critical role in supporting commercial and government vessels alike. The company's proposed project--to upgrade the apron surrounding Dry Dock No. 8--will ensure continued safe and efficient operations, expand their capacity, and enhance resiliency against severe weather events.
As the only remaining large-scale ship repair facility in the Port of New York and New Jersey, Caddell provides hundreds of well-paying union jobs and is vital to maintaining the region's maritime infrastructure. This project aligns with the goals of the Small Shipyard Grant Program by improving industrial efficiency, increasing productivity, and strengthening the U.S. maritime industrial base.
I respectfully urge the Maritime Administration to give this proposal full and fair consideration. Caddell Dry Dock is an essential asset not just to Staten Island and the New York region, but to our nation's maritime capabilities as a whole.
Thank you for your attention to this important request.
Sincerely,
Nicolb Malliotakis Member of Congress
