INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE QUARTERLY REPORT First Quarter - 1983
The Acids 570 Lab has completed the following in the first quarter of 1983:
1. We have participated in a program of testing all breathing air cylinders used on the plant.
2. Carbon tetrachloride monitoring of lab analysts was completed in February. All findings during this monitoring period were zero. These have been documented and reported.
3. The lab was audited by the Texas Water Quality Board on water returned to the river. All findings were in compliance.
4. We have complied with OSH 21, "Chemical Hazards - Acute"; OSH 26, "Respiratory Protection"; OSH 27, "Access to
Exposure and Medical Records"; OSH 28, "Toxic Substances Control Act".
5. Adipic and DDDA production areas were routinely monitored
for hydrocarbon, N0_ and nitric mist exposure. have been documented and reported.
Results
6. Each analyst on shift assignment has been trained in the operation of the Bell Telephone Override -- Gas Escape Alarm System, and the accounting of all employees.
7. The Lab Group Supervisors have trained all production supervision and operators in Recussi-Anne (rescue breathing). All gas meters and detectors used for checking atmospheres to assure good breathing air have been demonstrated, including the Monitox detectors for HCN and N02. All operating personnel have been instructed in their proper use.

Second Quarter - 1983
The Acids 570 Lab has completed the following in the second quarter of 1983:
1. We completed a program of testing all breathing air cylinders used on the plant in April.
2. Carbon tetrachloride has been removed from the lab and replaced with 1,1,1 trichloroethane as the solvent used in cleaning "b" color dishes.
3. We have completed our annual Scott Air Pack training.
4. The annual Noise Survey has been completed. Findings have been documented and reported.
5. All 570 lab analysts have been monitored for adipic and DDDA hydrocarbons. All findings have been documented and reported.
6. Risk appraisals for remaining chemicals not listed on new form have been completed.
