Miller RoF _ CHMj-.O W3 DATE September 26, 1973 Subject: Clarification of Mock OSHA Inspection - June 26, 1973 A meeting was held in Staple Polymer and Spinning and Staple Process to assign responsi bility to correct all items on the Mock OSHA Inspection of June 26, 1973. The Safety Department was asked to clarify the following items: Page 4 Item 4. Fire extinguisher locations are painted red and no further location markings are necessary. Labeling fire extinguishers with plastic colored classification labels has begun and should be finished within the next week. The fire marshal is labeling the extinguishers under the supervision of the Safety Department. Item 12. No action needed on this item to meet OSHA requirements. Item 13. The hinged platform over the steps at the ejectors is over 42" high and toe board and handrails are required. Toeboard should be 4" high and could be notched out so this platform can be folded up. Chains can be used for hand rails and could be easily installed when platform is down. Item 16. Signs are not required. Page 5 Item 30. Warning signs will not satisfy OSHA requirements. The metering pump drive should have totally enclosed guards. Item 33. Roto feed mixer guards are adequate because the exposed shaft is smooth with no key ways. The work platform also protects anyone from getting caught by the turning shaft. Item 40. All breathing equipment (Scott Air Packs, Canister Breathing Outfit, Fresh Air Breathing Unit, etc.) should be stored clean and in good repair. The face pieces should be stored in a plastic bag with a drawstring to prevent the face pieces from becoming dirty. A respresentative from the department where equip ment is located will Inspect and repair as needed, then log in same on in spection sheet attached to equipment.
