McTommoney Dear Mr. McTommoney As you may possibly have heard, 6ur Smith and Kanzler plant in Linden New Jersey is being sold to the Philip Carey Company. We expect to - replace this mill with a new mill to be located in the Midwest. I have been assigned to the project of development of this mill and would like to enter into discussions with you toward the possibility of Moore and White quoting us on a suitable paper machine. - -V",.A Our present thinking is that we will want a smaller machine than the Smith and Kanzler machine. It is our intent to make only our own products plus possibly a minimum of commercial papers to fully load the machine, so we will want to come up with a machine designed and built speci fically for the production of high quality asbestos gasket papers. We will require a minimum of 54 inch trim. We do not want to go too much wider than this, since we will want to be able to deckle down for a 36 inch minimum trim width. We would prefer not to go up to a 72 inch trim since this would increase capacity beyond our foreseeable needs and increase capital investment and operating costs as well. We want a machine similar to the Smith & Kanzler machine in general configuration, since on the whole that has worked very well on our prod ucts. We will be working against a rather tight budget and are hopeful that we may be able to locate some good used components which can be rebuilt and incorporated in the new machine. If you expect to be in Chicago in the near future I would be pleased to meet with you for a discussion on this; or, if you feel we can accomplish more by meeting at your office, I can come to Philadelphia at some mutually agreeable time.
