As of' 5:15 our time yesterday, Rindy Bel she had not called back. I called her at 7:50 this morning and learned the following:
Senator Eagleton plans to arrive Columbia1, Missouri around noon today. He does not plan to visit Sturgeon. There will be a press conference at 5 PM and he expects some questions about the Sturgeon incident.
Rindy said there was no need to have anyone from Monsanto at Columbia today, as there would be no time for a briefing.
There will be a regional meeting of some sort tonight, and the Mayor of Sturgeon and the Boone County Judge, who we think contacted Ea g l e t o n 1s office, will be there. The Senator will get a chance to talk to them and express his confidence that the situation is under control.
At Eagleton1s request, Rindy called Steve Jellinek yesterday and requested that a top level EPA toxicologist be sent to Sturgeon to convince the people that no hazard exists. She has a'tentative OK, and hopes to get the person's name and set a date this morning. She thinks the meeting will be early next week. Ke will be requested to attend.
She expressed satisfaction with Monsanto's role and efforts regarding the spill, particularly our continuing interest and followup.
