Greg McConiga, 1987 NAPA/ASE Technician of the Year, thanks those involved for presenting him with this prestigious award. The truck, given to McConiga by NAPA, was just one of many prizes he received from NAPA and a number of its manufac turers. Other prizes McConiga received were $5,000 in NAPA products contributed by NAPA Hand/Service Tools, Balkamp, NAPA Lifting Equipment and NAPA Specialty Tools. John Scalley, executive vice president for Genuine Parts Company, was named the new Chairman of the Board for NAPA. Scalley received the gavel, symbolic of the chairman's position as head of the NAPA Board of Directors, from outgoing chairman Gary Davis, president and treasurer of Wilmar, Inc. NAPA Mufflers & Shocks is the 1987 "Spirit of NAPA" winner. Presented each year to just one NAPA manufacturer, the "Spirit of NAPA" award acknowledges a NAPA manufacturer's overall excellence in areas such as shipping, merchandising support and helpful sales-building programs, effective use of manpower and training programs. Every Distribution Center nominates one manufacturer it feels has met these areas to the fullest and the overall winner is chosen from those nominees. The "Spirit of NAPA" award was begun in 1975 and NAPA Mufflers & Shocks along with NAPA Belts & Hose are the only three time winners of the award.
