A. Muller lifew York Telephone 140 West Street, Room 2250 New York, New Cork 10007 Dear Pat: Four air filters and three bulk insulation samples have been analyzed for asbestos. Bulk Samples The three bulk insulation sanoles labelled 111166 6AV 3RD FLR", "1166 6th AVE 5th FLOOR PAO", and 1166 19th FL. TREASURY PAYROLL" gave similar results when analyzed. The principal crystalline materials noted by x-ray diffraction were calcite and gypsum. 'When examined by polarized light microscopy the only 'fibers seen were non-birefringent (probably fibrous glass). Mo asbestiform fibers were noted. Based on these analyses none of the above samples contained any asbestos. Air Filters The air filters were analyzed by counting all fibers greater than 5 um long seen by phase contrast optical microscopy at 4GGx using methods recommenced by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
