Charlie, I received your request for a progress report on the 3M Phase-out of certain derivatives perfluorosulfonyl fluoride (POSF) based products.. This is to inform you that 3M is on track with this phase-out plan. As of Decemver 31, 2000, 3M has ceased manufacture of those derivatives used in the production of products in the following categories: Paper and Packaging , the Aftermarket , Apparel and Leather, Carpet, Fabric and Upholstery Category, and Commercial Care. The specific list of those derivatives for which manufacturing has ceased, is found under these category headings in Attachment 6 of the Phase-out Plan, dated July 7, 2000. In addition, 3M is meeting its reduced production goals of certain extended use categories. These include the Industrial Surfactants, Additives and Coatings, and Fire Fighting Foams. The listing of derivatives that fall into the extended use category can be found in Attachment 4 of the Phase-out Plan. The amount of total production is within the goals set forth in the plan. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Best regards, Mike
