The test procedure for the eyes involves placing 10 mg of solid, or 0.1 ml of undiluted liquid into one conjunctival sac of each of two rabbits and closing the eyelids. Twenty seconds after instillation one eye is washed with a gentle -stream of tap water for one minute. The other eye :1s not 'washed. The untreated eye of each rabbit is used as a control, A second pair of rabbits is similarly treated with the test material as a 10% solution or suspension in propylene glycol. This method should be used as described for the first seven samples. In the case of the mixtures, rather than testing a propylene glycol dilution, test each mixture in two eyes. The eyes are examined at one and four hours and at one, two, three and seven days, or as considered necessary. Examinations after the day of treatment should be made with the aid of fluorescein stain and a hand slit lamp or biomicroscopa.
