Minutes of Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of National Lead Company neld at 111 Broadway, New York Citv. on Thursday. September 15. 1927. at 10 o*clock A.M. Present: Messrs. Beale, Beschorman, Brodrick, Carpenter, Carter, Cornish, Field, McCarty, Rockwell, Sidford, Taylor, Thompson and Wettstein. Absent: Mr. Dorsey. The minutes of the regular meeting held July 28, 1927, were read and duly approved. The Chairman confirmed to the full Board the announcement, already made to its individual members, of the death on September 6, 1927, of Norris B. Gregg, formerly Vice President and. Director of the Company. Mr. Thompson thereupon submitted the following minute which was unanimously adopted: It is with affectionate remembrance that this Board makes record of the death of Norris D. Gregg on September 6, 1927. Although Mr. Gregg's official connection with this Com pany as a member of this Board and one of its Vice Presidents did not begin until 1917, his earlier associations with it and with the industry as a whole had already made him well known and highly esteemed by us all. In 1875, as a boy of nineteen, he began his business career in the employ of the Southern White Lead Company of St. Louis - of which his father, the late William H. Gregg, was then one of the principal owners and which later became one of the constituent properties of this Company at its organization - first as a chemist in its Research Department and later as plant superintendent. In these early years he designed a mechanical furnace for the manufacture of oxides of lead the essential principles of which are still in use by the Company. In 1880 he acquired an interest in a mixed paint business which he later developed into the well known and successful Mound City Paint and Color Company and to which he gave his principal time and energy for the next thirty years. In 1908, at the invitation of this Company, he assumed the management of Heath & Milligan Manufacturing Company, acquired by this Company in that year, and continued to direct the business of that company until its sale In 1919.
