Kingston Mr. W. M. Tome The following formulas are being issued to remove all lead: Y-5996-C - Ultra-Hide Gel Flo S. G. Deep Tint Base #3 Y-5997-C - Ultra-Hide Gel Flo S. G. Deep Tint Base #4 Y-5998-D - Ultra-Hide Gel Flo S.G. Deep Tint Base #5 Y-917-C - Spred Gloss Enamel - Red Pepper Y-921-C - Spred Gloss Enamel - Orange Y-937-D - Spred Gloss Enamel - Acorn Y-943-C - Spred Gloss Enamel - Tulip Yellow Y-959-B - Spred Gloss Enamel - Avocado Y-965-D - Spred Gloss Enamel - Shamrock Y-985-D - Spred Gloss Enamel - Empress Blue Y-988-D - Spred Gloss Enamel - Admiral Blue Y-4520-B - Glid-Guard Alkyd Enamel - Safety Red Y-4572-F - Glid Guard Alkyd Enamel - Neutral Gray Y-4573-F - Glid Guard Alkyd Enamel - EZC Green Y-4562-L - Glid Guard Alkyd Enamel - Neutral Gray The previns formulas had the lead drier removed in favor of Zirconium drier. These formulas have the lead feeder drier (E-396) removed in favor of calcium drier so there is no cost increase. Several Y-900 line shows a 1 cent per gallon savings. Y-988 is currently relabeled to Y-4564. Since this formula will now use V-2377 in place of V-2283 the cost savings will be 21 cents per gallon. The replacement of S-385 is part of this cost saving. Due to sales decisions regarding the deletion of baking recommendations of Glid Guard Y-917 will be relabeled to Y-4520. This gives us a cost saving of 5 cents per gallon with this lead free pigmentation. Y-917C will use V-2377 and S-339 for an additional savings of 19 cents per gallon. Mr. Haviland: Note the use of V-2377, Y-965 and Y-921 will also use V-2377 when sales gives final approval for this lead free green and orange. A slight color change on the next printing of Glid Guard color CLD 007173 Mr. S. T. Bowell -2- June 26, 1972 card would allow additional relabeling of lead free Spred Gloss colors. The cost savings for Y-917, Y-988, Y-4562, Y-4572 and Y-4573 appear to be excessively high. The reason for this is that Reading's 1972 cost for V-2283 is $1.19 while in Cleveland the cost is $1.01. The projected cost of V-2377 (replacement for V-2283) at Cleveland figured from pro duction sheet is $.93. Our computer has been using $.95 which was used for these formulas. JES: ed J. E.
