Gamblin From : John Friend Data : January 5, 1982 Subject : INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE AUDIT conoco - Per your request concerning item numbers 3 and 5 of the subject audit, we have the following plans: A.% Audit item number 3 -- We have reviewed all fixed point monitor strip charts back to April, 1981. This review shows that operators, who record data once per hour from the strip' charts, have made clerical errors. These errors have been corrected and documented in the file. The review shows the VCM content of breathing air was not as bad as originally reported. We will continue this review for all available strip charts. When the new fixed point monitor computer system comes on-line in the next few weeks, this problem should be eliminated. Relative to the charcoal bed for the breathing air system, we are designing and will install on a high priority basis carbon beds for.the suction of the breathing air compressor. B. Audit item number 5-- We intend to adopt two methods of quality assurance for in--plant exposure monitoring. First, we will formalize our system of periodic submittal of "blanks" for analysis. Second, we will work with Tom Grumbles to identify an outside laboratory for periodic checking of parallel samples. Concerning the lead monitoring recommendations in audit item number 4, we intend to institute two changes. First, during each annual health training session, we will discuss proper use of personnel monitors for lead and why these are important.
