Hi Greg and Walter,
The Deputy Secretary holds check-in meetings regularly with bureau heads, the next one for USGS/Bill is this Thursday. Bill would like to give him a quick overview of recent/ongoing USGS responses to severe weather hazards on both coasts, and the status of our remaining (post NPRA) energy assessments. Would you mind providing talking points for Bill that would summarize your respective topics, no more than a page in length? Having them as soon as possible tomorrow would be really helpful and appreciated-l'm sorry to be asking so late.
Thanks!

Hi Kerry,
Would you mind swapping out the USGS-led topics with:
1. Severe weather hazards response 2. Status of remaining energy assessments
Also, Bill will be there instead of Dave this time.
Thanks!

The agenda items are a hold-over from the December meeting that didn't happen. Please review them and recommend updates as needed.
For Reclamation - if all of the CVP items remain, do we add David Murillo as an attendee?
This will be due to the Dep Sec's office on Wednesday, so appreciate your feedback by COB Tuesday
For USGS, note that I replaced the S.O. update that was there (NPRA, I think) with one on the Critical Minerals list. I used the briefing paper to create the bullet, so please review.
Have a great weekend! Kerry

Hi Bill, attached are Walter's talking points on the remaining North Slope assessment work for your Dep Sec Operations meeting on Thursday. I'll send Greg Shelton's re weather hazards responses next. Margo will also build a folder for you with both. Thanks!

Alaska North Slope Resource Assessment Status - USGS
The USGS Energy Resources Program conducts assessments of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources in the United States (exclusive of Federal waters of the Outer Continental Shelf) and globally.
Major emphasis is being placed on compiling updated assessments of potential resources on the Alaska North Slope (ANS). This multi-agency effort is led by the USGS and includes the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
An assessment covering the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A) was released on December 22, 2017. Mean resources were estimated at 8.7 billion barrels of oil and 25 trillion cubic feet of gas. Additional areas to be updated include those within and adjacent to the following:
o Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), Section 1002 Area:
ANWR 2-D: Reprocess existing 2-D seismic data acquired in 1984-1985 2-D, with an anticipated completion date of June 2018. This scope of work does not involve any field activity and thus is not subject to potential environmental or regulatory issues or delays. A contract with Petrotechnical Resources of Alaska, LLC.to reprocess the seismic data was finalized on January 9, 2018.
ANWR 3-D: Acquire 3-D seismic survey (this survey will be neither procured nor managed by the USGS), with an anticipated completion date of December 2019. This FY 2018-19 3-D work is contingent upon there being no delays related to regulatory or contracting issues. Delays may result in the date moving out farther than December 2019. These delays could include the completion of Environmental Impact Statements and other regulatory tasks that the seismic acquisition vendor may be required to complete prior to commencing field activity associated with the 3-D survey. Given that seismic acquisition in this area takes place only during the winter, a potential delay of only a few months could delay actual acquisition to the following winter season.
o Central North Slope: Relies on public release of tax-incentive 3-D seismic reflection data. Anticipated completion date is December 2020 but it may be delayed if the ANWR 3-D phase is delayed.
o West of NPRA: Includes review with BOEM of seismic data in the Chukchi Sea. Anticipated completion date is December 2020 but it may be delayed if the ANWR 3-D phase is delayed.
Assessments are being conducted in collaboration with Alaska Region BLM and BOEM, and with cooperation of Alaska Department of Natural Resources Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and Division of Oil and Gas (DOG).
Alaska North Slope Resource Assessment Status - USGS
The USGS Energy Resources Program routinely conducts assessments of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources in the United States (exclusive of Federal waters comprising the Outer Continental Shelf) and globally.
Major emphasis is being placed on conducting updated assessments of potential resources on the Alaska North Slope (ANS). This multi-agency effort is led by the USGS, and the geological framework on which the assessment of Federal lands is conducted will benefit from cooperation and collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). Neither BLM nor BOEM have any role in non-Federal areas.
ANWR 2-D: Reprocess existing 2-D seismic data acquired in 1984-1985, with an anticipated completion date of July 2018. This scope of work does not involve any field activity and thus is not subject to potential environmental or regulatory issues or delays. A contract with Petrotechnical Resources of Alaska, LLC.to reprocess the seismic data was finalized on January 9, 2018. Subsequent interpretation of the reprocessed 2D seismic data, together with results of field and laboratory studies, will form the basis for an updated assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources.
ANWR 3-D: Acquire 3-D seismic survey in FY 2018-2019 (this survey will be neither procured nor managed by the USGS), which will form the basis of an updated assessment to be completed in December 2019. If and when the FY 2018-19 3-D work is completed, it is contingent upon there being no delays related to regulatory or contracting issues. Delays may result in the date moving out farther than December 2019. Given that seismic acquisition in this area takes place only during the winter, a potential delay of only a few months could delay actual acquisition to the following winter season.
o Central North Slope: Relies on public release of tax-incentive 3-D seismic reflection data. Anticipated completion date is December 2020 (but may be accelerated if the ANWR 3-D phase is delayed).
