Bergert Meeting vith Don Ebert Commentary on J-M Operations At your request, ve have held a meeting vith Don Ebert and asked for his comments concerning Manville as yell as other plant J-M flooring operations. This meeting vas attended by A. V. Macrae, C- J. Bergert and myself. The most serious problem facing Johns -Manville Flooring Division in the manufacturing area is, in Mr. Ebert's opinion, color variation as a result of the use of multiple mixers* Don feels that the problem is serious at all plant locations and vill at best be extremely difficult to control vith a multiple mixer system. A major advantage can be obtained through use of a single mixer -- Banbury type operation. Don stated that ve might veil attain improved recovery and lover product cost through increased binder content is our product. He definitely felt that vith the lev intensity mixers ve are utilizing that any further reduction in binder content vould not be desirable. first calendar and that no crovs should be used on the second and third calendars. Colonial-Sugar does not use chromed rolls. Sillier - DB^Meeting vith D'^ Bbertv -- -2 July 19, 1963 Don stated that the Manville plant appears to have excessive steam blisters in their Terraflex splash ahead of the first calendar and that our temperature of operation is approximately 10 - 15 degress lower than that found at any other location* Further, he feels that the Manville Plant has the most porous mix* > A statement was made that the flat bed press at Chillicothe is desirable, but that a tremendous amount of work has been done to accomplish such poor control ^of the sheet and the frame* The rubber belt in use on the buffers at Chillicothe is desirable in that the tile cannot be stretched as a result of the buffing action* 3be above is a brief synopsis of our areas of discussion* G.
