Yalcinkaya Subject: Pre-Demolition Walk-thru Phenolic Resins Unit Based on the questionnaire and walk-thru inspection of these two areas the following industrial hygiene concerns were identified: 1. A significant amount of asbestos insulation is present on lines and vessels in the area. In addition it is uncertain if the covering over foam glass insulated vessels contains asbestos. Under UCC policies all asbestos removal is to be conducted in negative pressure enclosures unless it is either unfeasible to do so or it is a small scale job. Any contractor bidding on this job should be made aware of this policy. In addition he should be required to provide an on site industrial hygienist during the asbestos removal to monitor exposures to contract employees daily. As with any asbestos demolition we must assure ourselves that notice is sent to the Galveston County Health Department at least 20 days prior to the date removal is started. 2. Any liquids encountered during the demolition should be presumed to be phenol until shown not to be. 3. Insulation that is loose on the ground in the tank farm area should be picked up as soon as possible and properly disposed of. If you have any questions please give me a call.
