V. J. Labrecque S. M. Lillis J. A. Johnson S. L. Sebastian February 16, 1?68 To: W. J. Sheehan/ From: C. I. Hayden SUBJECT: SMITH & KANZLER ASBESTOS - #70 Board ASBESTOS - B. T. Board re; ; Target, Date for Release We have reviewed the above materials with Smith & Kanzler and have agreed upon an anticipated timetable. We feel a satisfactory laminating system for B. T. Board will be established within 30 days. Another 30 to 60 days will be required for production trials. Based upon these figures, we anticipate release of high gauge, laminated B. T. Board by May 15., 1968. Evaluation of the present version of #70 Millboard has indicated some problems. We feel these can be eliminated and a formulation estab lished by July 1, 1968. Allowing tvro months for preproduction trials to establish production capability, release should be affected by September 1, 1968. Relative to the lamination of the millboard, we may with to con- sider using one type of adhesive for layer gaskets in cylinder heads, and another for manifolds and air cooled engines. Would this present a serious problem to manufacturing in maintaining this dual inventory? From a mate rial performance aspect, it may be needed to achieve the best lamination for each application area. We plan to include the laminated gauges in our release target. \ Materials Development Laboratory \t' 1fl1' ' -f U. pt C. I.. Hayden VPD-158-00000675 DANA-127
