Oxley was employed by Union Carbide Corporation .at its South Charleston, West Virginia plant on December S, 1944 His birth date was February 3, 1914. His initial job was as a laborer in the Vinyl Resins Area. A laborer, at this time, cleaned equipment, changed filter presses, swept floors, and handled resin when manual handling was required. On January 7, 1951, he was made a shift truck driver with duties of general hauling in a pickup truck along with the transport of diacetyl peroxide dissolved in vinyl acetate, and general cleanup work as noted above for a laborer. To date, his job has changed very little except that he is doing 75% laborer work now as opposed to 100% truck driving and catalyst handling when he first was upgraded. Essentially all of Mr. Oxley's work has been related to the solution polymerisation of vinyl chloride monomer to resin. In general, he has had some daily exposure to vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, acetone, isopropanol, and vinyl resins throughout his career.
