Regarding tetrapropenylsucclnlo anhydride, I find that Rimer supplied what information we have to your associate, Nr. Thomson on August 21 (see enclosed copies). In connection with Aroclor 1254 we have animal toxicity data that show an oral in rats of 12,000 mg/kg when administered undiluted* When applied undiluted to the skin of rabbits the minimum lethal dose was between 1260 and 2000 mg/kg* When applied as a 40 solution in corn oil consecutively for 20 days the mean lethal dose was approximately 75 mg/kg* Obviously the undiluted material is not readily absorbed whereas oil solutions may present a hazard If there is repeated and prolonged contact. We have not done the usual animal skin and eye Irritation potential studies. As far as the skin is concerned we have never had any particular problems during the manufacture of the material nor have we had any reports of skin reactions from users. We do know that the liquid Aroolors are pretty good 'solvents for the normal fats and oils of the skin and repeated and prolonged exposure can lead to defatting. One of our research groupe la at the moment setting up a schedule to obtain more definitive water solubility data. In the meantime I believe "Insoluble" can be Interpreted to mean solubility of less than 1 ppm. This Is based on a very crude experiment that Slmer and Dr. Kelly conducted a number of years ago with Aroclor 1242. When we have additional data available on solubility I will get in touch with you.
