Turner Brothers Asbestos Company Post Office Box 40 Rochdale, England Dear Ronald: 1 should like to take this opportunity to thank you and your colleagues at TBA for your many courtesies during my visit. It was a pleasure to meet with you and discuss our mutual problems. 1 have started our part of the program to filter a large quantity of beer to be used in a final comparison study between our methods and especially to verify the feasibility of the X-ray method pro posed by TBA. As mentioned to Hr. Heron, it is possible that this method can be used with relatively pure substances, such as those encountered in the beer problem. However, Z an skeptical about the feasibility of the method in studying air or other samples where the fiber con centration may be in the range of 0.1 per cent to as low as 0.001 per cent of the total solid material. Xf there are any samples that we can prepare for the comparative evaluation of mired systems we shall be very happy to cooperate. Our program with tracer techniques is still underway, but not yet completely reliable. We still are finding only about SO per cent of trie chrysotile fiber that we put into calibration samples and are attempting to determine the cause of this problem.
