Millennials to Rally Monday to "Shine A L ight on Big Oil Corruption" during Fossil Fuel Lobbying Event at DC Trump Hotel
Angered by big money corruption and climate disruption, the youth-led Sunrise Movement will disrupt Independent Petroleum Association ofAmerica's "Congressional Call-Up" on March 5
WASHINGTON, DC-- On March 5th, the Independent Petroleum Institute of America, a fossil fuel industry lobbying group, will open their "Congressional Call-Up"--an annual lobbying event that includes meetings with Republican lawmakers and the industry-friendly EPA--at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC.
In response, Sunrise--a youth-led grassroots movement mobilizing to stop climate change and end the fossil fuel industry's corrupting influence on American politics--is organizing a rally and protest on Monday evening to "shine a light" on the fossil-fueled corruption and greed represented by the Trump Hotel event.
"There could be no better symbol of the corrupting influence of Big Oil over our government than having a high-dollar fossil fuel lobbying event at the Trump Hotel. That's unacceptable--so we're standing up to the fossil fuel billionaires who are wrecking our generation's futures for the sake of their bottom line," said Stephanie Tulowetzke, a volunteer organizer with Sunrise in DC.
"If our government were beholden to people, not big polluters with deep pockets, we could finally unite to take on the climate crisis--the defining challenge of our generation," said Varshini Prakash, a Sunrise Movement leader.
WHAT: Young people, organized by Sunrise Movement, will rally at the Trump International Hotel during a major fossil fuel industry lobbying event to "Shine A Light on Big Oil Corruption" and demand solutions to the crisis of climate change.
WHEN: Monday, March 5th, 2018, 5:15 PM
WHERE: Trump International Hotel DC, 12th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW (Front Steps)
