CHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION January 5, 1980 TO: Vinyl Chloride Project Panel Vinyl Chloride Research Coordinators SUBJECT: Symposium on Vinyl Chloride Monomer/Polyvinyl Chloride to be Sponsored by OSHA, NIOSH, and NIEHS "sometime during the latter part of February, 1980" Gentlemen: Supplementary to the information on the Subject Symposium included under Section 10.0, Record of Research Coordinators Meeting, November 28, 1979 is the following additional information about this nebulous symposium: 1.0 Although "scheduled" for the "latter part of February, 1980" no firm dates have been set nor are there any written documents or announcements pertinent to the symposium. 2.0 Dr. Infante, in response to my direct questions responded as follows: * 2.1 The theme of the symposium is: "Reevaluation of the Toxicity of VCM and PVC and Structural Analogues". 2.2 The sponsors are OSHA, NIOSH, and NIEHS. 2.3 The nature of the papers desired are: 2.3.1 "Experimental bioassay work on VCM and PVC" 2.3.2 "Epidemiological study(s)." Dr. Infante seemed especially anxious to have someone present a paper covering the EEH studies sponsored by the Vinyl Chloride Panel. 2.3.3 "Give us some kind of generic assessment of PVC dust in various industries handling and processing VCM and PVC". He failed completely to respond appropriately to this critical point. Dr. Infante concluded the conversation with the comment participation of members of the Vinyl Chloride Project Panel CMA will be welcomed. To this comment, I made no commitment whatever other than to say that the symposium and all of the information he gave me would be brought to the attention of Panel members as promptly as possible. that and Dr. Torkelson plans to discuss the members of SPI.
