The 6th Annual Air Pollution Medical Research Conference devoted to health and air pollution In California, the American Industrial health Conference, the regular ceetlng of the American Standards Association -66 Committee on hazards to Children and the Lead Symposium of the Kettering Institute vere attended.
6, The Kettering Laboratory Study, EE? Contract LC-75. This study entitled "iiioan Exposure to Ambient Air Concentrations of Particulate Lead," vas approved by our Board of Directors for support through the ESP end the Ethyl Corporation, the Da Pont Corporation, and the United States Public Health Service. The study is proceeding vith tvo hinan subjects being exposed for varying tines In an attempt to simulate actual exposures to lead In an air pollution situation. Scue of the results of this vork msy be knovn by the tine of our next q^iarterly report.

7. The Lead Syrrposlua at the Kettering Laboratory, This meeting vu highly successful and vos attended by over one hundred representatives of govemner.tal agencies end interested manufacturers. Latest results on lead toxicology vere presented together vith eumariea of vtwat has been discovered to be practical about control of potential lead hazards in industry and in general public health situations. The entlte proceed ings of this syepoelua vill be reprinted and nade available to neebers and others following its publication in a national nedical Journal. L.I.A.'a Executive Vice President vas the opening spoaXer, presenting a re sure of lead's uses and importance in Industry.
8. Health and Safety Ccrcrlttee. The second oeetlng of the L.I.A. Health and Safety Cccnlttee vas held in Cincinnati follcving the Ketter ing Syczposlun and vas attended by all but three of the Denbers. taoeg the Interesting lteca considered at the oeetlng vas a report of a prellclnary study vhich indicated a potential beneficial effect froc the injection of soluble lead salts into test onlnais prior to their exposure to harmful radiation. It is planned to consider this subject further. Progress reports vere given to the centers on the several research prograns vhich are nov underway.
9. Toxicolory laboratories. The Health and Safety Director visited tvo toxicology laboratories In his continuing efforts to obtain suitable facilities for testing nev lend compounds vhich are being developed in the ERP progrsn. Thus far ve have obtained proposals froc three such laboratories and it is expected that one or tvo core vill be requested to send un their ideaa on recociccnded test programs for this purpose.
10. Pottery Investigation. This investigation, being conducted in cooperation vith the li.S. Potters Association, continues. A tentative test oethod for lead release froc glazes has been distributed and vill be discussed at the next oeetlng of the group on Fay 2. It Is expected that this test cethod, if proved satisfactory, vill be accepted as a tentative ASIM method.

11. "Lead." The first 1963 issue of this quarterly vos prepared and vent to the printers for nailing in early April. It is a tvalve-page In stead of eight-page issue as authorized for this year.

l*f. Lead Burning Contractors. On invitation of its Secretary, the Executive Vice President and the Secretary of L.I.A. attended a business nee ting of the Lead Burning Contractors Association in Rev York. The purpose of the oeeting was to try to develop closer liaison between the two groups with mutual interests in many application areas. We were assured greater cooperation in obtaining publicity caterial and case histories on chemical installations and assistance with our chemical chow exhibit later in the year. A further ceeting with their Executive Committee is planned to develop a continuing program of mutual benefit.

We ere working closely with the architect end en gineers on a nev building fer one of the members of L.I.A. who plans to use lead roofing, soundproofing and other lead applications. Our services are available to other members and we urge tl-en to get in touch vith us on new construction projects.

PO. Cost Calculator.. Cn request bOO copies of our cost calculator brochure for battery-powered industrial trucks were supplied the Sacramento, California, Municipal Utility District for their own distribution. It was also translated into it's seventh foreign language - Creek.
?1. Industrial Truck Association. L.I.A. presented Its nev storagebattery advertising campaign to this group at Its Deetlcg in Eew Orleans in February. I.T.A. offered close cooperation and assistance in dis tribution of our literature and in gathering reliable operating data to further the sale of battery-powered industrial truck* and vehicles.

25. Committee Meet leg. The Subcccdttee on fiolse and Vibration Con trol, appointed by the Industry Development Ccroittee to guide these programs, met and also had considerable correspondence during the quarter. A plan of action Is being developed.

27. Drake Hotel. Arrangements vere rode for a test Installation of three leaded-vinyl curtain doors betvecn kitchens and meeting rooms of the nev Prakc-Cakbrock Hotel in suburban Chicago. The purpose is to re duce undesirable noise transmission and the test Is Jointly financed by the Drake, the door manufacturer, and L.I.A.
23. Elctt Haven Hemes. Cfcc of the largest contracts for lead-asbestos anti-vlbratlon pads so far has nov been let for this huge housing project to be erected over the licit Haven lords of the II. 1. Central Railroad. Our architect vorked vith both the architects and engineers for this project during the planning stages,

A report by the consulting en gineer for the Place Villc ,'Arle Project In Montreal over the Canadian National tracks, vhlch vas erected on lead-acbcatos antl-vlbratlon pads, gives full engineering data on field tests to determine their Med and effectiveness. It appeared In "The Engineering Journal" of the Engineering Institute of Canada In Hoveubcr, 1962. Pcraloalon vos obtained to reprint this report and It vaa circulated to our calling list of scoe 12,000 architects and structural engineers and to our centers.

Developoent of a stcel-lead-flbcr glaso enclosure for nol6y transformers vas reported in a paper given In January before the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers by the Portland General Electric Co.
