10 m 4 MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH 16 784 4 September 1979 Petrol Engfewd Models 1. Tilt the cab as described in section 44. 2. On vehicles fitted with four (4-410-S), six and eight speed transmissions, slacken, unscrew and remove the two bolts securing the clutch slave cylinder to the clutch housing. Oo not remove the push rod or the rubber boot from the slave cylinder. Swing the cylinder aside and suitably support to prevent damage to the hydraulic fluid line. 3. Remove the battery cover and disconnect the batteries. 4. Slacken, unscrew and remove the nut securing the starter motor electrical lead to the starter motor and disconnect the lead. 5. Slacken, unscrew and remove the two bolts securing the starter motor and remove the starter motor. 6. Slacken, unscrew and remove the four bolts securing the flywheel lower front cover and remove the cover. 7. On vehicles fitted with the 4-310 transmission, slacken, unscrew and remove the five bolts securing the clutch housing bottom cover and remove the cover. 8. Slide tKe clutch release bearing and hub assembly off the fingers of the release arm fork and withdraw the bearing and hub assembly via the transmission's main drive shaft aperture in the clutch housing. 9. Press the dutch release bearing off the hub. 10. Place a suitable jack upder the sump at the rear of the engine with a piece of soft timber between the jack and the sump. Raise the jack to take the weight of the engine. 11. Slacken, unscrew and remove the self locking nut from the clutch housing to chassis cross member mounting bolt on each side of the housing. Withdraw the boltB together with rite fiat washers, lower insulators and the distance tubes. 12. Slacken, unscrew and remove the six bolts securing the clutch housing to the engine. Move aside any cabjes or pipes that were clipped to the housing. On vehicles fitted with the 4-310 transmission the two bolts on the left-hand side also retain the clutch slave cylinder. Move the cylinder aside and suitably support to prevent damage to the hydraulic pipe. 13. Raise the jack slightly to lift the housing lugs off the upper insulators. 14. Pull the clutch housing off the two locating dowels and lower it to the floor. Remove the two upper insulators from the cross member pads. Move the housing away from the vehicle. 15. Remove all the asbestos clutch lining dust from the clutch housing._________________ WARMINQ: Asbestos dust Is injurious to heaftp and must not be inhaled. Do not Move the dust off with an air line. Use a suttdble vacuum cleaner. If a vacuum cleaner it not available. use personal protective breathing equipment or a suitable face mask and remove the dust carefully with a brush or rag. Collect the dust In a sealable plastic bag or envelope for disposal.______ '________________ ______ 16. On vehicles fitted with the 4-310 transmission, unhook the clutch retease arm return spring from the lug on the housing and from the lug on the arm and remove the spring. 17. Remove the clutch release arm rubber gaiter from the clutch housing aperture and pull it off the release arm. 18. Pull the clutch release arm to disengage it from the trunnion pivot ball and remove the arm from the housing. 19. Slacken, unscrew and remove the release arm pivot trunnion ball from the clutch housing. 1. Hydraulic ateve cylinder. 2. Release ami return spring. 3. Free^rtey adjusting screw, 4.
