Dear Mr. Cason,
I am the official Washington, D.C. representative of the Navajo Nation (we've met several times at NGS and Bears Ears discussions). I am writing on a different but extremely time pertinent subject that requires your attention and action before June 30 in order to save 10 jobs.
The Navajo Nation receives a recurring annual grant from the OSM authorized under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) Title V Section 710. This funds 10 jobs on the reservation. The FY 2016 grant period expired on May 31,2017 and our folks received one month of additional funding. (We have funding through June 30, but not afterwards.)
We were informed that grant approval is pending with your office. The grant amount for the 11 month period is approx. $ 1.6 million. We definitely understand you have several issues on your plate (and appreciate your help with NGS), however we ask that you please review the grant approval as soon as possible to avoid any delay in OSM work or any layoffs.
Please let me know if I should get in touch with anyone in your office to follow up or provide additional details. My cell is (b) (6)
Thank you,
Jackson
