Modeling of air contamination
EPA Proposal to Address Data Needs
Monitoring of PFOA in air to quantify concentration an of off site contamination
Additional groundwater monitoring, similar to Washing Works, to quantify PFOA in groundwater offsite conta at additional manufacturing sites. Groundwater sampl be collected to determine the extent and level of contam away from the site
Soil sampling for PPOA to quantify and determine exte site soil contamination
Monitoring additional biota for PFOA (plants, herbivo avian terrestrial species, fish and other aquatic species) manufacturing facilities

Item 10: Monitoring - Fluosjopolymers EPA Data Needs: (Draft i-21-03)
Data Need
Use Releases
Information on release of PFOA to air, water, wastewater, sludge from use facilities
LOI Commitment
Additional data
needs beyond LOI
Use
Composite information on process releases from user facilities representing different use industries
Modeling of releases from user facilities (carpet initially)
Monitoring data on release of PPOA to
air. water, wastewater, sludges from processing/use
facilities
EPA Proposal to Address Data Needs
Screenin i, level monitoring studies to measure PFOA relea
to air, w ter, wastewater, and sludges at representative use sites.
Number at sites should be sufficient to allow preliminary assessmi nt of releases associated with different use indust Monitor ng should be sufficient to provide baseline data to allow qu mtification reduction in environmental releases o time. I or industries that are clustered fewer sites should needed.

EPA Data Needs: (Draft 9-21-03)
Additional dat i needs beyond .01
Measured concentrations f PPOA in air, si rface water, grounds ater, wastewater, soi , sludges biota a use facilities
EPA Proposal to Address Data Needs
Screening level monitoring studies at facilities representati different user industries.
Initially 5-10 "Worse case" sites associated with each use industry should be selected for monitoring similar to that d at manufacturing facilities. Monitoring should be designed provide scoping baseline data to inform future site selectio needed, and to allow qualification efforts to reduce release Number of sites and locations dependant on information ab number and location of user facilities
Measured concentrations n air, surface wa er, groundwater, wastewater, so , sludges, biota ( own gradient from i se facilities
Monitoring data should be collected sufficient for screenin level characterization of PFOA concentrations in environm media at the site and released from the site. Screening leve study design is site/industry dependant, but may include: 5 surface water samples upstream, at the site, and downstream 20 wells with quarterly groundwater sampling, 5-10 air sam monthly wastewater sampling, quarterly sludge sampling if discharges go to POTW, 20-50 soil samples, 20-50 biota samples
Surface water, groundwater wastewater, air, soil, biota (pla herbivores, avian terrestrial species) monitoring studies aro use facilities
Data to characterize environmental concentration away fro site and to identify limit of environmental contamination
Wastewater and sludges from POTWs receiving discharge user facilities should be included
