Dear Dr. Kehoe: Following our letter of June 17th, we have received a reply from the Assistant General Manager of Tsumeb Corporation Limited which states: "1 have discussed Dr. KehoeTs suggestions with both Dr. Lombard and our Chief Chemist. The latter in particular feels that if we have a detailed procedure and a description of the facilities required, there is no reason why we cannot perfect a technique for analysing for lead in blood and urine samples. I do appreciate Dr. Kehoes opinion that it would be far better to have a man trained in his laboratory, but circumstances here more or less preclude that at this time. Our whole staff in the analytical section are required in preparing for the start-up of the lead smelter and nobody could be spared for a trip to the United States. Would you therefore explain the matter to Dr. Kehoe and request him to pro ceed with giving us detailed instructions in the analytical technique and the equipment and general facilities required. If we cannot come up to scratch and handle the work, we would be prepared to send somebody there eventually. I think also that we should proceed with getting the containers from Dr. Kehoe so we can commence sending samples of blood and urine to his laboratory." We know you will appreciate the problems involved in operating at such a great distance and trust that the suggestions made in the foregoing will be satis factory to you. It seems to us all, in view of the timing, there could be no harm in their attempting to carry on this work under your written supervision in the interim and, if unsuccessful, then send someone to you for training when conditions permit.
