Hehoe, College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati, Cincinna ti, Ohio, Dear Dr. Kehoe: You have heard about our recent experience in cleaning empty Ethyl Gasoline tanks at Detroit. As I now understand it, three or four of the five men that cleaned the tank had definite symp toms of acute lead poisoning. The dust in the tank was 5% lead. We, of course, through our safety department, are going to set up strict regulations to overcome this difficulty. Mr. Smith, our safety manager in the sales department.field, has insisted that the men wear gas masks, so that they get their air from the outside. He is also going to suggest that the men wear proper gloves and that their cloth' ing be laundered after they have finished the job each day. As you probably have had experience all over the country with this same condition, I know that Mr. Smith will appreciate any suggestions which you have regarding safety matters in cleaning these tanks. Won't you, please let me have your vuewpoint? This is the first incident that we have had and we would like to. have it the last if possible. Would appreciate a copy of any re port which you make to this company's officials re garding this whole affair, as I understand you have a man, or did have a man in Detroit, representing your company.
