Subjeotr Insulation Asbestos Content, Maintenance Shop, Building #4
As you requested, we evaluated employee exposure to airborne asbestos from insulation in the Maintenance Shop located in Building #4 of the Engineering and Research Center. A bulk material sample and air Bample taken were analyzed for asbestos.
A review of the data indicates that the insulation contains a significant percentage of asbestos but, at the present time, concentrations of airborne asbestos are Icbb than appropriate occupational permissible exposure limits. However, it should be noted that the insulation is friable and hae the potential to continually generate airborne asbestos fibers. Therefore, we recommend that!
0 The insulation be removed and replaced with a non-asbestos material, or
0 The deteriorating portions of the insulation be vacuumed with an approved vacuum, and the remaining insulation be sealed with an encapsulating compound.
