OIL COMPANY January 25, 1956 Dear Jack: This is to verify and - confirm our telephone conversation of yesterday as concerns the alleged lead poisoning case of ir Company agent at Caltfornia^^^^^ Missouri* As I explained to you, sometime ago Mr * began to have the loss of feeling in on of hi arms^mcOxanos^^ As I understand it, this occurred some year and a half ago. The condition existed until recently when the loss of feeling in his arm and hand had becorae so prevalent that he could not even hold a cigarette* Later developments in th case indicated that this loss of feeling and partial paralysis is now in his leg or legs. During the intervening time of Mraffliction he has con sulted a Doctor K. J* O'Banlon, who is th local doctor in California, Missouri. It is also our understanding that other doctors were also consulted and could give his no diagnosis of his trouble. More recently, Dr. O'Banlon, th California, Missouri physician, has diagnosed the case as lead poisoning. This matter came to the attention of Mr. c. F. Robertson, Sales Manager of II, F, A. Oil Co. very recently when, as 1 understand it, Mr. Meyer made inquiries through th insurance Department of M. F. A. Oil Company as would concern the insurance coverage in the case of lead poisoning. yesterday Mr. Robertson called me giving the above facts and information. So further requested our medical assistance in determin ing whether or not th subject actually h&& load poisoning. He further stated his reason for making the request, which was Ethyl's experience in such matters and until such time as a diagnosis has been made by our Medical Department, he preferred that the case not be turned over to any Dtner medical authorities. For the information of those concerned, Mr. C. F. Bobertson can be contacted either by letter or telephone through the M.F.A. Oil Company, Columbia, Missouri - telephone number - Columbia 3188. As per your recommendation, I called Dr, KitsaaiXXer in Cincinnati and gave him the facto of the case as outlined above. St was his suggestion that Mr. Robertson of M.F.A. recommend to the patient 2 January 25, 1956 his T ue * ~ requested of the Medical Department of the Ethyl Corporation. This assistance being the examination of urine and blood samples taken by Dr. O'Banion and submitted to the Kettering Laboratory for analysis, attention Dr. Kitzmiller. At such time, if the letter from Dr. O'Baaion to Br. Sitasailler is written, the latter will request information and procedures as concerns the needed Mood and urine samples and instructions for obtaining them. The containers, instructions, etc. will then be returned to Dr. o*Banion. It was felt by Dr. Kitzmiller that this should be the opening procedure in intervening in the matter and not causing any ill feeling by Dr. O'Baaion. We certainly agree with Dr. Kitzmil!er*g thinking on this matter. The above outlined procedure was explained yesterday to Mr. of 5I.F.A. and he will Immediately contact Mr. &nd^TM request that this procedure be followed. As cOTf^e expected, there are no further developments at this time. We will, however, keep you and Dr. Kitsmiiier advised of any additional occurrences.
