Berg Ethyl Gasoline Corporation Horth Kansas City, Missouri Dear Harold: During a conversation Friday with Mr. Lynn, Wichita manager of the American Sfceel works, I uncovered another possible case of lead poisoning. This conversation Yiras in connection with our safety work since the American Steel Works do considerable tank repairs. The case in question involved a former shop foreman of their organization. Just about a year ago while repairing a trans port tank on the inside this man literally "threw a fit". He came out of the tank and tried to climb the side of a building. Since that time, he has been unable to work, and I aminformed that American Steel works are currently paying him compensation. The symptoms given me are slight mental aberrations, slight paralysis--such as inability to focus the eyes and inability to hold an object, and sometimes falling. The above spell occurred on an extremely hot day, and of course, tank work under such conditions is extremely hot work. The physician examining the patient on the occasion of the spell pronounced it as heat exhaustion. Subsequent physical examinations have--so far as Mr. Lynn is aware--resulted in no other diagnosis. Mr. Lynn suggested that should we desire any further information regarding this case, that conversations be conducted with their Wichita office rather than their Kansas City office. 11/ a
