As you put these into production, it is imperative that the cans and cartons be marked in such a way that they will be identifiable in the field as lead-free paints. Mittl - #02 Accordingly, as you put these formulas into production, instead of using a "P" for the production number designation on the top of the can and the carton, substitute an "l." in place of the "P", This means that, presently, your production number may show as ''P-1978" and, in the future, if this is a lead-free paint, your production number will show as nL-1978". ' We also feel that you should have a stamp made, and stamp each production slip with the legend "Lead-free. Do not use any lead compounds.M. You will have to caution your Control Laboratory people not to add any lead driers or additives to any of your Trade Sales paints. You should alBO furnish your shaders with a list of lead-free and lead-containing shading bases, and make sure that none of the lead- containing shading bases are used in any Y line product or for any product that may be used on the interior or exterior of buildings. It might not be a bad idea to use up any lead-containing shading bases for the Trade Sales line, and not replace these in the future. i Dr. Kiefer has been furnished a list of products being made at other regions and shipped into Chicago, and thi6 lisp of formulas will be checked over for lead content; then, if necessary, plants supplying you will be furnished with lead-free formulas to be handled in the same manner.
