Monsanto Monsanto will operate its plants and laboratories in a manner that protects its employees from adverse health effects caused by exposure to chemicals and physical agents such as heat, cold, noise, vibration, and radiation. Worldwide, as a minimum. Monsanto will comply with the workplace exposure regulations of each nation in which a Monsanto facility is located. Where no such regulations exist, worldwide Monsanto will comply with the standards (Threshold Limit Values [TLVs]) contained in the most recent list published by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACG1H). In world areas lacking a specific government exposure regulation and there is no TLV. a Monsanto Workplace Permissible Exposure Limit (MWPEL) will be established by the Director. Department of Medicine and Environmental Health (DMEH) when deemed prudent. In world areas possessing exposure regulation less stringent than Monsanto believes prudent, Monsanto will operate its facilities at the level determined to be prudent by the Director. When trends in regulation, early experimental results, or intelligence from industrial, academic, or government sources indicates the need to develop or modify a workplace exposure limit or practice, the Director. DMEH shall issue an Exposure Limit Advisory (ELA) for use in facility planning, design, or operation. Any exceptions to the requirements of the above procedures must be approved by the Environmental Policy Committee. Where there is any data which suggest that a chemical to which our employees are exposed is a carcinogen, and such chemical is not subject to government regulations, we will evaluate that data, and based on that evaluation, take the following action: Where such data establishes the chemical as a human carcinogen, we will take appropriate action to reduce exposure to the lowest reasonable level, unless exposure is already at such a leveL Where such data establish the chemical as an experimental or suspect carcinogen, we will (individually or jointly with others) initiate study to confirm or disprove such designation. If it is concluded that a material cannot be produced or used without jeopardizing the health of employees, its manufacture or use will be discontinued.
