BENNETT U RE: INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE COMMITTEE A meeting of the Industrial Hygiene Committee was 1958- Attending the meeting were the following: G. Decker, J. E. Lowry, H. H. Hannah, Dr. L. A. Block, I. K. Kaighin, and F. H. Huyette. The Chemical Laboratory reported that atmosphere samples had been made in the bus bar welding area. The amount of ozone in the atmosphere was well under the maximum allowable concentration as outlined by the American Industrial Hygiene Association standards for the times in which the tests were made. The exhaust units have not been installed. A check of the ventilation system at the duplicating machine, basement of Building 808 disclosed that the louvers at the duct of the main air conditioning system were opened toward the machine causing a down draft behind the venting hood. The duct louvers were changed to direct the air flow away from the duplicating machine. The Chemical Laboratory suggested that the ventilating fan be left on for a period of one-half hour after each use of the duplicating equipment. Atmosphere sampling at the Fail Mills is being continued. For the times that the tests have been conducted, the lower explosive limits of the materials have not been reached. The use of soluable oil-air mist as a substitute coolant at the Acme Saw will be tried again. Nothing conclusive has resulted thus far from our efforts. An outside engineering firm is currently studying the problem from a design standpoint. The Safety Department advised that a few complaints had been received on the condition of our rest rooms. A periodic survey is being conducted to determine the extent of this problem. ARD 044216 TO MESSRS.
