They explained t h a t i t was n e c e s s a ry t o r e c r u i t a p p ro x im a te ly 50 tr a in e d i n d u s t r i a l hygiene en g in eers f o r th e armed s e rv ic e s and th a t th e y had been a ssig n ed th e d u ty o f c o n tac tin g th e American I n d u s tr ia l Hygiene A sso c ia tio n in oonneotion w ith t h i s m a t t e r . They re q u e s te d t h a t I m eet w ith them on W ednesday, May 5 , t o fu rn ish them w ith a l i s t o f our membership and t o d iscu ss th is g e n eral prob lem , I contaoted D r, H, H, Schrenk and arranged fo r us to meet w ith them as re q u e s te d , I a ttem p ted to c o n ta c t o th e r members o f th e E xecutive Committee and o b ta in e d th e a p p ro v a l o f W, A, Cook on t h i s p ro c e d u re , Ted H atch c o u ld n o t be reached by telep h o n e and P h ilip D rinker is on th e West Coast a t the present tim e.
During th e m eeting w ith M ajor Johns and C aptain A rth u rs, th e y e x p la in e d to us th e A rm y's need f o r many t e c h n i c a l men a t th e p r e s e n t tim e . They in d ic a te d th a t th e in d u s tr ia l hygiene engineers were needed fo r serv ice i n army e s ta b lis h m e n ts i n t h i s o o u n try , and a l s o i n d ic a te d t h a t some o f th e s e men w ould no doubt be a s s ig n e d t o t h e sc h o o l w hich i s b e in g co n d u cted f o r t r a i n ing personnel to take over the d u tie s of operating in d u s tria l establishm ents in oooupied t e r r i t o r y . A fte r much d is c u s s io n o f th e extrem e sh o rtag e o f w e ll t r a i n ed in d u s tria l hygiene e n g in eers, th ey were fu rn ish ed th e m ailing l i s t of the membership o f th e A sso c ia tio n , They p lan to send a very m ild l e t t e r to eaoh o f th e members s ta t in g th a t th e r e i s a need f o r o f f i c e r s , as covered on th e a tta c h e d Memorandum #11-F R -108, and s t a t i n g t h a t any p e rso n s i n t e r e s t e d in ap plying f o r one o f th e se Commissions should com plete a q u e stio n n a ire which th e y w ill att& eh to th e l e t t e r . The l e t t e r s are so worded th a t th e y w ill not re q u ire a r e p ly from any o f our m embers, I f e e l th a t our members sh o u ld have no o b je c tio n to re c eiv in g such a l e t t e r since i t does not req u ire a d e fin ite r e p l y .
