He felt that-the members would be pleased to learn that the article, written by Mr. Jeremiah R. Lynch of the United States Public Health Ser vice, Department of Health, education and tfe2 fare absolves brake lining <?f sir pol lution. Mr. Lynch*s conclusions were that "only a very small proportion of the asbestos worn from brake linings is released as free fiber; ihe remainder is con verted into some other mineral as a result of the extreme temperatures generated at small spots on the lining surface. Thu$# although urban air contains a few free fibers as a result of brake lining wear, they represent a very small pro port ion of the total asbestos used in the manufacture of brakes. Many sources of respirable fibers not associated with asbestos products have been identified (12) and the free fibers from brake lining wear appear to be an inconsequential health factor in urban air pollution". * No further business was brought to the attention of the meeting, therefore, motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, it was RESOLVED: To adjourn.
