As per your request of June 21, 1983, fo r us to record any contacts we have
with Dow Chemical employees regarding the proposed case control study pn s o ft
connective tissu e cancers, I want to report a meeting in.-my o ffic e

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Mr. U lric h came to my o ffic e unannounced'just to
check on the status of our Department's acceptance o f the $250,000 o ffe r from
Dow Chemical Company to fund che case control study. I told him that we have
not been able to o f f i c i a l l y accept the money, but tha t our most recent communicatjon
with the Attorney G e n e ra l's O ffice would ind icate that we should be able to
:
accept the money w ithin the r e la t iv e ly near future.

I advised that our protocol is nearing completion to a stage were we w ill soon be able to release i t fo r peer review in a general format. We hope that th is
would be p o ssib le in time fo r a meeting which is te n ta tiv e ly planned to be held in Midland la te r on this.month to describe State/federal stu d ie s being planned.
Mr. U lric h indicated that he had a lso spoken with Mr. Jager on the same afternoon. Mr. U lric h indicated that Dow Chemical Company i s anxious to have each of th e ir 6-p oint proposal fo r Dioxin studies progress toward implementation.
