Kehoe University of Cincinnati College of Medicine General Hospital Cincinnati* Ohio Dear Sir: C-931334 STEVENS-MADER INC 32181 We are in receipt of your favor of November 6th, 1930 and in com pliance with your suggestion* we will give you the following information from our file* The claimant in this case is a young m a n of about twenty two years of age and single* He was employed by our assured, for about two years ae an automobile mechanic in the Service Station Department* During the fall of 1929, he was taken sick with the grippe and returned to work a short time afterward and continued to work up to May 31st, 193Q when he complained to the manager that he was not feeling very well and the man ager suggested that he take a couple of months off" so he could get ,back on his feet as he had been working hard since he had been out with the grippe. Otis claimed that, he began losing weight during the month of March 193G7 he did not know what caused the condition and as he continued to lose weight* he went to the home of his friend at Center Baratead* New Hampshire. After being there a week, he did not get any better and* therefore, went to see Dr,. Tuttle of Alton, New Hampshire who is the family physician* The doctor gave him some medicine to take and he re turned to the doctor about two weeks later. When he asked the doctor what the matter was with him the doctor told hint his system was full of lead poisoning. The doctor continued to treat him up to the first week in August* Otis, returned to work on September 2nd, 1930 The claimant in his signed statement states *1 noticed upon making the repairs to these cars that there always was a great amount of white powder around the valves* During the time 1 was repairing these cars, I had numerous cuts and abrasions on my fist. Anyone in the work of repairing cars most of the time has bruises and cuts on the hand* The doctor stated the poison got into my system through the open cuts on my hands " In his statement, he also mentioned that for seme time he has been repairing cars that have always used Ethyl Gas. The claimant started to work at the age of fifteen at his brother's, gar age where he was employed until 1924. His next place of employment was with George R. Bussey, a F o r d dealer in Boston,, Massachusetts where he was employed as a mechanic* He left this employment in 1927 and went to work for the Texaco Gasoline Company Filling Station at the corner of Broad and -- 2-- Dr. Robert- A `Kehoe C-931334 3TEVENS-MADER INC November lth, 1930 , 32181 Merchant street. Lyrrn, Mass. He was employed there for three months and then went to work for the Stevens- Mader Inc. Therefore, he was probably employed by our assured for about three instead of two years. We do not have a diagnosis from Dr. Tuttle at this time. Our investigator has requested it,. Our assured states that they re ceived a letter fr m a doctor in Center Barnstead in which the doc tor stated that Otis was suffering from lead poisoning* We do not have a copy of this letter in our file at this time. The investigation of this case has been supervised by our Boston Claim Department and they will represent.this Company at a hearing which we expect, ill be held in order to determine that this is a compensable case. We have discussed this case with the Ethyl Gasoline Corporation of this City and in a special interview with Mr. A. E. Mittenacht, we were advised that he would communi cate with you and that he was willing to assist in any way possible to prove that Otis did not suffer lead poisoning from Ethyl Gasoline After you have had an opportunity to study the informa tion herein provided, we will be pleased to hear further from you and act upon any suggestion that you may offer.
