The pump lubrication system is to supply oil to the turbine (Whiton Machine Co.). The turbine manufacturer has been instructed to contact the pump manufacturer directly relative to his oil requirements. The satisfactory operation of the pump-turbine lubrication system will be the joint responsibility of the pump and turbine manufacturers.
NOTE: The quantity of S5*F. salt water required for the oil cooler is to be promptly forwarded to the Shipbuilder.

The above pumps are to be complete with flexible couplings (including turbine half couplings), bearing lubrication system and extended bedplate;
ready to receive the turbine but not including turbine; which will be furnished by the shipyard and shipped to the pump manufacturer for assembly with the pump.
Each pump is. to have a self-contained lubricating oil system including oil reservoir, pump, filter and oil cooler. The circulating water to the lube oil coolers will be supplied from the ship's salt water service system at a temperature of about 85F. and pressure of 35 PSIG.
Pump casings are to be split horizontally to
enable quick dismantling without removing the turbine.
Connections are to be provided in top and bottom
of each pump casing for venting and draining the casing.
Wearing rings are to be fitted in the pump casings
and retained by tongue and groove or equivalent
arrangement. Suitable impeller wearing rings shall
be provided.

Bearing brackets are to be integral with the fixed section of the casing or bolted to the fixed sec tion and secured by male and female construction and dowelled. Jacking bolts are to be incorporate!
to facilitate breaking the mating flanges.
Connections for shipbuilders piping shall be r suitable for withstanding loads imposed upon them
due to normal expansion and contraction of the. piping attached thereto in accordance with good marine practice.

where fixed insulation will terminate. The joint:; will be covered with portable pads.. Eyebolts or equivalent means shall be provided for all parts to be lifted.
There shall be no critical speed within 25 percent above or 30 percent below the rated RPM.
INSPECTION AND TESTS
The pump manufacturer, together with the turbine manufacturer, shall jointly be responsible for producing complete and satisfactory units.
After assembly each unit shall be subjected to a shop test to prove proper assembly, satisfactory alignment, freedom from vibration and satisfactory workmanship.
The pumps are to be hydrostatically tested to 1350 p.s.i.g.
Inspection and tests, if required,by the regulatory bodies noted in Appendix B-573 shall be made at the vendors works. Final inspection will be made at i:he shipbuilders works after delivery unless otherwise decided on at a later date.
After completion of shop tests at Vendor's plant, any packing liable to cause, corrosion by remaining in place1 during/Shipping or storage of the eqviipment is to be removed, stowed separately, and carefully marked so as to assist in its reinstall ation. Rods or shafts, in way of the packing are to be properly protected from corrosion during shipment or storage of the equipment.
The equipment shall conform to all applicable requirements 'contained in Appendix B-573.
For identification purposes during installation, each electrical unit is to have the assigned symbol number as designated herein plainly marked thereon, if practicable, otherwise each unit is to have a durable tag bearing this number securely attached.
' The material furnished shall be substantially tagged or clearly marked for identification with the item and purchase order number thereof.
