This is relative to a requirement of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Agreement States Nuclear Regulatory Agencies for the periodic testing for the functioning of off-on controls which may be built into some radioactive sealed source containment devices. These types of devices should be tested for proper functioning at the time that periodic leak tests are made on the sealed sources. I A request was made to Jim Hall for monitoring results made by the 3M Company at the Galdo-Llngle Company, Inc. This was relative to evaluation of health exposures which could result from use of 3M Scotchkote Epoxy Resin. Our special interest was that this material contains trlmellitlc anhydride. If any of our employees assigned for final inspection of coated pipe were exposed, they might experience noncardiac pulmonary edema, immunological sensitization, and irritation of the pulmonary tract, eyes, nose, and skin. The purpose of this was to aid in efforts which should be given to monitoring for various substances as per recommendations made as thp result of the latest Industrial hygiene inspection of the Humber Refinery. Copies of portions of the OSHA Field Compliance Operations Manual for Industrial Hygiene have been received from Organization Resources Counselors, Inc. We are to receive additional portions of this manual which will aid us in being more knowledgeable with respect to the criteria by which any plant might be inspected by an OSHA Compliance Officer.
