I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. (Inc.), the owner, whose address Is P. 0. Box 2626, Victoria, Texas 77902, plans to start removing pieces of asbestos Insulatlo:. to allow Inspection of equipment In our Dodecanedlolc Acid plant. This Is part of a program to eventually remove 25,000 square feet of asbestos containing Insulation from 44 vessels In this process. The program became necessary when chloride stress corrosion cracking of stainless steel equipment was discovered last May under similar Insulation In our Adipic Acid plant. At this time, no Insulation removal from piping systems is planned-. This program will extend Into 1984 and the schedule will depend on what we find, when vessels can be shutdown, etc. We will give you a report In January of what was removed during the remainder of 1983 and, hopefully, a more definite schedule. The removal job will be supervised by Du Pont personnel to Insure that proper safeguards, work practices, and disposal procedures are followed. All asbestos will be "wetted- before handling. Respirators and protective clothing will be worn as required. Caution signs will be appropriately placed to alert workers to the presence of asbestos and that necessary precautions must be taken to enter the removal area. DUP 0821233 DU Oil649 Hr.
