Reducing the hydrochloric add in the diaso necessitated a corresponding cut in the alkali in the coupling, All the sodium bicarbonate was eliminated in addition to a cut In caustic soda* However, without the buffering action of the bicarbonate, the pH of coupling rose to 11*0* Further deoreasss were nade in the alkali to bring the pH to normal. The lad of buffer caused the coupaLing pH to be very sensitive and small cEuantitiea of caustic soda g&ve wide variations.
Concentrating ths slurry to 1/4 ths volume increased ths depth of product eli#itly but this effect wae desirable in K-2413.
Increases in the temperature of coupling increased the depth of the pigment also, with boiling giving the aaadwun depth. The reactivity is increased slightly too.
